Tax when you sell your home
You don’t pay Capital Gains Tax when you sell your main home where you lived if you haven’t used part of it for business – its called Private Residence Relief. In case full Private Residence Relief do not qualify, you might be able to deduct the costs of buying, selling or improving the property which reduce the gain.
Tax when you sell property
You may have to pay Capital Gains Tax if you make a profit when you sell property that’s not your home, for example:

◦ inherited property
◦ business premises
◦ land
You do not pay tax on gifts to your husband, wife or a partner. Non-residents only pay tax on UK residential property.
